Take it from me, I only wish I had gotten into it sooner. The worst that could happen is you challenge yourself and make amazing friends along the way.
before tournaments
I usually feel really excited before a tournament. My goal is to make sure I've been to plenty of keiko in the months and weeks leading to the tournament. Tournament day, I have a healthy, light breakfast; nothing but water until after the tournament.
